Tiger Woods ditched quip due to ‘mental anguish’ says Luke Donald

Luke Donald believes “mental anguish” could be behind the decision of Tiger Woods to lift out of his quip at the Safeway Open.

Woods has had 3 back operations in the space of 19 months and the former universe No1 has not played competitively given Aug last year. He had designed to play in California this week and in the Turkish Airlines Open on the European Tour in November, but pronounced on Monday he was not prepared to compete. “My health is good and we feel clever but my diversion is exposed and not where it needs to be,” Woods pronounced on his website.

Donald, who had a career-threatening wrist damage in 2008, said: “It sounds like clinically he feels fine. He’s just not utterly prepared to tee it up from a mental standpoint perhaps. That’s positively what we collected from his comments. There’s a lot of mental agonise when you take time away. we consider apparently Tiger’s got very high standards and expectations.

“I consider that you have to import that up with that feel of almost disaster or fear or stress of not behaving well. If Tiger Woods is healthy like he says he is, that’s substantially what he’s weighing out right now, just feeling comfortable. It’s really tough to get gentle unless you actually put yourself by it. At some indicate he’s got to burst in, and if he messes up, he’s got a good eventuality to get better the next time he plays.”

England’s Chris Wood saw Woods during the Ryder Cup when the 40-year-old was one of Davis Love’s vice-captains and hopes this latest reversal does not symbol the finish of Woods’s career.

“He seemed excellent at the Ryder Cup, but you never know with Tiger,” Wood said. “It’s really unsatisfactory since we was prepared to watch it and it would have been good for the European Tour for him to play in Turkey in his second eventuality back.

“It is really unsatisfactory for myself as a golf fan to not be means to lay down and watch him play, since he was my golfing hero. He won the Masters when we was 10 years old, so from that indicate on he’s the only man I’ve ever looked up to really. And he doesn’t merit for his career to come to a finish in this way. He deserves to go out in all the character that his annals still deserve.”
