The Point: We Have a Winner, Baby

Good for Gerber. For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Of the 140,000 families who entered their little ones in the competition to turn the 2018 Gerber Baby, it was one-year-old Lucas Warren who was chosen. Once you see his darling grin, you’ll see why.

But this little man enjoys another honor. He’s the first child with Down syndrome to be named Gerber Baby given the competition began.

That’s a big deal, since in many western countries—including Iceland, France, and even here in the U.S.—the immeasurable infancy of children with Down syndrome are targeted for annihilation by resourceful abortion. This is deliberate a good thing by many in the press, and generally the academy.

Princeton bioethicist Peter Singer has argued that relatives should be allowed to kill children with disabilities like Down syndrome after they’re born!

Gerber’s choice sends a essential message: Children with disabilities are just as profitable as anyone else. May Lucas be an ambassador, not just for Gerber, but for the fun that comes from welcoming all lives.
