The Point: Science vs. Virgin Birth

These “science writers” can really skip the point. For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Writing at “Popular Science,” Daniel Engber asks, “Could a Virgin Birth Ever Happen?” Not surprisingly, his answer is “no,” at slightest not by any means famous to science.

So while he doesn’t plainly interpretation that the Christmas comment is therefore a myth, the portrayal of Mary and baby Jesus at the top of his essay creates his goal flattering clear.

There you have it, folks. Science disproves Christianity!

But not so fast. As Derek Rishmawy points out at “Christ and Pop Culture,” articles like this are grand exercises in blank the point.

Christians know where babies come from. We also know people don’t customarily walk on lakes, spin water into booze or return from the dead. That’s since we have a special word for these occurrences: miracle.

It’s also since healthy scholarship can’t oppose miracles: they’re supernatural! Just since we can’t detect of a spectacle by scholarship doesn’t meant God didn’t detect a spectacle in Mary.
