How does Donald Trump applaud Hispanic Heritage month? By observant ‘we adore Puerto Rico’ with a cartoon accent. Seriously, you can’t make this things up.
On Friday, the White House website proudly announced, “More than 200 Hispanic business, community, and faith leaders from opposite the country collected at the White House to hear remarks from President Trump, Secretary Alex Acosta of the Department of Undermining Labor, and Treasurer Jovita Carranza from the Department of Treasury.
Held from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the autonomy days of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. This month is also meant to prominence the many contributions Hispanics have done to the republic and the culture.
Flanked by First Lady Melania Trump, Alex Acosta, and Jovita Carranza, the GOP’s boss took the theatre and positive us the White House is “martialing [sic.] every sovereign apparatus at the disposal” in the service efforts for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
It’s a good thing he’s finally figured out they’re both tools of the United States. But it took about a week, and a lot of reaming from journalists, domestic leaders, and open total like former DNC chair Donna Brazile. Oh, and Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of Puerto Rico’s largest city in San Juan, was reduced to pleading on inhabitant TV, “I am begging. Begging anyone who can hear us. Save us from dying. we am insane as ruin since my people’s lives are at stake.”
Too bad he busted this special moment with his weird and totally-not-racist cartoon diction of the difference “Puerto Rico.” Or as ABC News softly puts it, “played with a Spanish Accent.”
“We’re also praying for the people of Pwherrrrtoh Reekoh, We adore Pwherrrrtoh Reekoh. Pwherrrrtoh. And we also adore Puerto Rico.”
The throng laughed and applauded. It’s misleading either any of that was shaken laughter. While ABC’s news report let Donald Trump off lightly, Dan Linden from ABC’s social media multiplication tweeted out the video with a dollop of snark. “Pres. Trump: “PUerto Rico. We adore PUerto Rico,” the chatter quotes. “And we also adore Puerto Rico.”
