Facebook is confronting a series of lawsuits from victims of “revenge porn”, a heading defame counsel has warned, after a teen reached a allotment with the social networking site over exposed images of her that were posted online.

The Belfast-based defame and remoteness consultant Paul Tweed has also told the Guardian his bureau was being “deluged” by inquiries from people who explain exposed and compromising pictures had been posted on Facebook, Twitter and other sites.

Tweed pronounced this was in serve to a “very poignant series of cases” his Belfast bureau was already traffic with in propinquity to complaints about punish porn being posted on social networks.

“Because Facebook, Twitter and other social media giants have their European domicile in Dublin many of these cases will be listened in the Dublin courts. There are utterly a series tentative and the allotment in the case last week at Belfast high justice will positively have a temperament on them.”

Facebook reached a trusted allotment with a 14-year-old girl this week who sued them after a photo of her was posted on a supposed “shame page” on the site.

The child’s authorised group took on the case after her photo seemed several times between Nov 2014 and Jan 2016. She purported injustice of private information, loosening and breaching the Data Protection Act.

Her lawyers at McCann and McCann solicitors claimed the allotment had “moved the goalposts” in terms of how social media networks such as Facebook would have to respond to faulty and violent messages and images being posted on their sites.

“The social networks’ participation in Dublin also means they are theme not only to Irish laws but also European remoteness legislation, which entails they could be sued anywhere in Europe over this issue of supposed punish porn,” they said.

Tweed pronounced Facebook already has an algorithm that has private exposed images, after the site took down the picture of the nine-year-old Vietnamese girl Kim Phuc using divided from an American napalm attack in 1972.

“It was an algorithm that picked up that picture and censored it primarily and it is apparent that the same algorithm could simply be used to filter out exposed pictures of people that are posted for some-more sinister reasons on Facebook. The network can't disagree it doesn’t have the energy to filter out these images,” he said.

The general outrage forced Facebook to return the picture on its site.

Tweed pronounced he was incompetent to exhibit serve sum of the cases tentative in the Irish Republic to strengthen the remoteness of his clients. He determined his own use last summer and non-stop a new bureau after 39 years as a comparison partner in the Johnsons law firm. Part of the reason for opening new premises and recruiting a incomparable authorised group was due to the boost in the series of cases being taken against social media giants, he said.

Facebook pronounced that it has grown new technological collection to help victims of so called punish porn and that the network takes the issue seriously.

A orator for the social network site pronounced that a “Report” component on Facebook could be used by victims. The Facebook orator pronounced that clicking on this and stating the posting of insinuate or faulty images would lead to new “specially lerned member from the Community Operations team” to mislay personal and descent material.Facebook would use new “photo-matching technologies” to forestall the serve pity of images on the networks, the orator said.

On the Belfast high justice case this week, the Facebook orator added: “This case has been ongoing for several years. For authorised reasons, we are only at autocracy to state that no visualisation has been rendered in this case and that there has been no integrity of any tangible or intensity guilt for Facebook.”
